Code of Ethics

 

    Preamble

The Board of Directors and/or volunteers of The Pig Preserve Association Inc. (hereinafter referred to as TPPA) must perform under a standard of professional behavior that requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct, and must be dedicated to the protection of the abused, abandoned and/or neglected pigs' health, safety, and welfare.  

 

 

    Fundamental Canons  

 

 

    TPPA's Board of Directors and volunteers, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall:

    1.         Hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of all pigs, whether pet, miniature, farm, and/or any other.

            A.        If, while engaging in a rescue, placement or other such operation under the auspices of TPPA, the judgment of the person designated as the “in charge” individual is overruled under circumstances that endanger the life of a pet, miniature, farm and/or any other pig, TPPA's Board of Directors shall be immediately notified.            

            B.         TPPA's Board of Directors shall approve only those rescuing and/or placement documents that are in conformity with applicable standards.            

            C.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall not reveal facts, data, or information regarding a rescue, placement or other such operation being undertaken under the auspices of TPPA without the prior consent of the of the organization except as authorized or required by law or this Code.            

            D.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall not permit the use of their name by or associate in rescue and placement ventures with any person or organization they believe are engaged in any fraudulent or dishonest enterprise, which may cause harm to pet, miniature, farm and/or any other pigs.

            E.         TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall not aid nor abet the unlawful practice of rescuing or placement by any person or organization.

            F.         Any TPPA Board member and/or volunteer having knowledge of any alleged violation of this Code shall report thereon to TPPA's Board of Directors and, when relevant, to public authorities, and cooperate with said authorities in furnishing such information or assistance as may be required. 

   2.         Perform services only in areas in which they are competent.

            A.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers may accept assignments and assume responsibility for coordination of an entire rescue and/or placement provided each segment is approved in advance whenever possible and no rescued pet, miniature, farm and/or other pig will be put in harms way.

            B.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall advise those in authority when they believe a project will not be successful.

  3.         Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner.

            A.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall be objective and truthful in professional reports, statements, or testimony.  They shall include all relevant and pertinent information in such reports, statements, or testimony.  All such information shall bear the date indicating when it was current.

            B.         TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers may express publicly opinions that are founded upon knowledge of the facts and competence in the subject matter.

            C.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall issue no statements, criticisms, or arguments on matters that are inspired or paid for by interested parties, unless they have prefaced their comments by explicitly identifying the interested parties on whose behalf they are speaking, and by revealing the existence of any interest the rescuers and clients may have in the matter(s).

  4.         Act for each organization or client as faithful agents or trustees.

 
TPPA's Board of  Directors and/or volunteers shall disclose all known or potential conflicts of interest that could influence or appear to influence their judgment or the quality of their services in rescuing and/or placement of pet, miniature, farm and/or any other pigs.

  5.         Avoid deceptive acts. 

TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall not falsify their qualifications or permit misrepresentation of their or their associates' qualifications. They shall not misrepresent or exaggerate their responsibility or participation in prior assignments.

  6.         Conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor, reputation,              and usefulness of TPPA.

            A.        TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall acknowledge their errors and shall not distort or alter the facts.

            B.         TPPA's Board of Directors and/or volunteers shall abide by all local, state and governing bodies of law for the protection and welfare of the pet, miniature, farm and/or any other pigs.
