N. Ft. Myers Rescue

Rotting garbage, dead animal carcasses, and broken and discarded household items were among the things found at an abandoned homesite when Lana Hollenback and other rescue personnel arrived to transport and relocate four overweight potbellied pigs who had been left behind to fend for themselves, along with a host of other animals including several cats and dogs, many of whom had already perished due to lack of care.

It is truly horrifying and quite depressing to witness situations such as this, which serve as examples of the human race at its worst. For many, it is unfathomable that people could treat animals in this manner. Sadly, these horror stories occur more often than most people realize.

But fate smiled on these pigs!

Several volunteers took time out of their busy lives to help in this rescue. One by one, the chubby porkers were guided to a large stock trailer, where they began a new journey to a better life...

A heartfelt thanks is extended to everyone who had a hand in this rescue. Thanks to the folks listed below, four more pigs will never again have to experience pain, hunger and fear. They have a wonderful, "forever" home where they can graze, roam, and be loved and cared for the remainder of their lives.

Penny who so loving opened her property and heart for these girls
Penny's son for helping to prepare for them and unloading them
Pennys boyfriend for donating the post and gates and working so hard to get it all up in time.

Phyllis Battoe of Pig Pal Sanctuary in Whorton IL who donated the fencing and encouraged me every time I was ready to quit (but she did tell me to quit the @#$@!@ crying. LOL)
