What is the Sabrina Fund and how does it work? |
||
|
Many times, we have good pet pig owners who love and care for their pig(s) for years, then they have a change in work, have a personal or financial crisis, then their pig gets sick. They become overwhelmed in veterinarian bills and need some help financially in paying those bills. Although the Sabrina Fund doesn’t cover all of the bill, it will help with part of the bill. Each case is voted on by a panel of three, determining if the Sabrina Fund will help, and if so, by how much. Is this enabling a pig person to take on a pig they can’t afford? No. This is for people who have proven their ability to adopt and care
for their pig(s). It’s just that they have had circumstances beyond
their control and need a helping hand. This helps the pig to get the
medical help it needs and also allows the pig to remain in the home
with the people it loves. It’s a win/win situation. Each year, the panel will approve how much will be used to help with the
medical education at our symposiums. These symposiums are designed to
help to educate veterinarians to be better prepared to help our pet pigs
in a health crisis. Anywhere from 7 to 14 pigs each year receive medical
help during the wet labs and training at no cost, or very low cost, to the owners. This will depend on how much money is raised for
sponsorship for the symposium by other means. Yes. We do not cover regular spay/neuters, hoof trims, vaccines, and
tusk trims or regular visits to a vet. We do not collect medical data for pigs although we do keep copies of
medical records, invoices and copies of necropsies only for our own
records on pigs that we help. We will, however, suggest to the owner that
they send all their medical information to The Duchess Fund where it
will be added to their data base and made available to other vets. They are voted on by a panel of
three. Both for the situation and then the
amount. The request must be in writing, either by regular mail or E-mail. It
must include all of the your personal contact information, the reason
for the request and the amount of the vet bill. It must also include
information on your pig and your veterinarian’s name, address and phone
number. |
